A funeral mass was celebrated Thursday, April 24, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church with Msgr. Enda McKenna officiating.
Mary Ann Murchison was the organist; Toni Klafka was the soloist, and the St. Mary's Adult Choir also sang.
Interment followed in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum.
Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where a vigil service, led by Deacon Pat Klein, was held Wednesday evening, April 23.
Knopp was born March 3, 1927, in Fredericksburg, the son of Emil Knopp and Anna K. Berg Knopp. He married Katherine (Tuttie) Becker on Nov. 11, 1950, in St. Mary's Catholic Church and she survives.
A 1944 graduate of St. Mary's High School, Knopp served with the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and then worked for 37 years with the Texas Department of Transportation before retiring in 1989.
For 35 years, he was associated with his brothers in the operation and management of Andy's Diner.
The Knopps were the Gillespie County Blood Drive coordinators for 15 years between February 1981 and December 1995.
From 1993-2000, Knopp was Gillespie County Commissioner for Precinct 3.
He was an active member of St. Joseph's Society, the Knights of Columbus and a Eucharistic minister for the homebound at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Knopp was a member of the PCAA and the Fredericksburg and Stonewall chambers of commerce, as well as American Legion Louis Jordan Post 244.
He delivered Meals on Wheels once a week and volunteered at Night in Old Fredericksburg, Oktoberfest, the Uptown Welcome Center, the Chamber of Commerce Visitors Center and other events.
In addition to his wife, Knopp is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, including Donna and Gary Heimann and Diana and Patrick Bailey, all of Austin; Debbie and Ronney Baethge of Waco, and Danette and Jeff Somers of New Jersey.
Also surviving are five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by two brothers, one sister and spouses, including Norbert Knopp of Yorktown, NY; Andy and Irene Knopp and Mildred and Robert Dancer, all of Fredericksburg; a sister-in-law, Ruth, Mrs. Werner Knopp of Fredericksburg, and a brother-in-law, Henry Becker Jr. of Tow.
Knopp was preceded in death by his parents, as well as a brother, Werner Knopp, and a sister, Lottie, Mrs. Albert Klafka.
Memorials may be made to the St. Mary's School Endowment Fund, St. Joseph's Society or to the charity of choice.
Pallbearers included Eric Heimann, Chris Heimann, Heath Baethge, Michael Bailey, Michael Evers, Gregory Knopp, Steve Gonsoski and Jon Hahne.
