Sara Gay Crain, 95, wife of the late George A. Crain, and daughter of the late William H. and Zadie Barton Gay, passed away on June 19, 2015.

Sara was a member of Greer First Baptist Church and a founding member of the Greer Garden Club. In 1966, Sara was selected GGC’s Woman of the Year. She was a charter member and past president of both the Greer Garden Club Council and the Azalea Garden Club. Sara was also a past Advisory Board member of Allen Bennett Hospital.

Sara loved her friends, her Sunday School class, gardening, sewing Christmas ornaments, and playing bridge. A woman of classic elegance and refined grace, she was Miss Taylors in 1936.

In addition to her parents, Sara was predeceased by her brother Jim Gay (Jeannette) and her devoted son and only child, Bob Crain.

She is survived by nieces Ann Gay, Jean Gay Hodgens (Neil) and Debbie Crain Turnage (Alfred), and nephews Jimmy Gay (Mary), Buck Gay (Loretta) and Richard Crain (Joan) and their respective families.

Visitation will be Monday, June 22, from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at Wood Mortuary in Greer. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the Wood Mortuary chapel followed by the burial service at Wood Memorial Park.
