Leonard served as a Technical Sergeant on B-24H (#41-29508), 761st Bomber Squadron, 460th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in New York prior to the war.

Leonard was "Killed In Action" when his B-24 was hit by German flak and crashed in Austria during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
