Mrs. Pinney of Stafford Dies at 77
Stafford Springs (Special) -- Mrs. Clara (Baker) Pinney, 77, active in Stafford Chapter of the American Red Cross in both World Wars and prominent in other local civic organizations, died suddenly Thursday at her Orchard Street home. She was the wife of Charles B. Pinney, Stafford textiles manufacturer.
Helped Form Chapter
Mrs. Pinney assisted in organizing the local Red Cross chapter during World War I, was a charter member and a former chapter chairman. She held other offices in the local chapter during WWII. She was formerly associated with the Stafford Library Association and the former Current Events Club, not the Stafford Women's Club. She was a member of the local Universalist Church.
She was born in Norwichtown, July 7, 1881, a daughter of the late Irving G. and Sophie (Armes) Baker. Her mother died when she was a child and she came here to live with her grandmother, Mrs. Gilbert H. Baker. She attended local schools and was graduated from Bradford Academy, now Bradford Junior College, in Maine.
Besides her husband she leaves a son, Robert Pinney of Vancouver, B.C.; three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Webster and Mrs. Elizabeth Courcier, both of Coconut Grove, Fla., and Mrs. William B. Carpenter of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and four grandchildren. (Edit-should be William K. Carpenter.)
Private Funeral
Private funeral services will be directed by the William H. Yost Funeral Home. The Reverend Alexander Meek, pastor of the Universalist Church, will officiate. Cremation will take place in Springfield, Mass. The family has asked that flowers be omitted.
