Judge Roy C. "Red" Bearden, 85, of Jonesboro passed from this life on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at NEA Baptist Hospital.

He was born in Egypt, Arkansas to Admiral and Maude Bearden on August 20, 1929. Red graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1947 and enjoyed playing football. He graduated from Arkansas State University in 1951 with a Business Agriculture Degree. Red served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. During his military career he achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, dedicating over twenty years.
Roy taught Agriculture at Cash and Valley View Schools for over five years. He was the co-owner and president of ABLE Inc. and Justice of the Peace in Ward 4 in Jonesboro. Red was a member of the Craighead County Quarm Court before being elected as a Craighead County Judge.
He served as County Judge for 18 years, retiring in December of 1998.

In addition to his other achievements, Judge Bearden was an Eagle Scout, a member of Jonesboro Masonic Lodge #129, Scottish Rite Mason 32nd degree, previous President of the Arkansas County Judges Association, and previous President of the Arkansas Association of Counties.

During the course of his life, he enjoyed serving his community, reaching out to others, and giving back to his family and his hometown, Jonesboro. Red loved football, attended ASU Football games most of life. He was a strong supporter of the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. He loved to support mission trips for the teen group at Southwest Church of Christ.

Red had the highest respect for the U.S. Military and the American flag. He donated his time and money to many veteran programs and the American Red Cross. Roy was a member of the NEA District Fair Board and never missed a fair unless he was out of the country since the age of ten.

Roy loved his family and enjoyed taking them to Lake Norfork. His favorite holidays were the Fourth of July and Christmas when he could spend time with his family. Red was a member of the Southwest Church of Christ and was a devout member of the Democratic Party and remained active until recently. Anyone that knew him well knew that he had a sense of humor bigger than life.

Judge Bearden is survived by his two sons, Roy Bearden Jr. (Angie) of Knoxville, Tennessee and Donald Bearden (Sherri) of Jonesboro; daughters, Barbara Bearden of Little Rock and Donna Parsons (Danny) of Jonesboro. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and Larry Kelley, a close personal friend whom was viewed as one of his sons.

Roy was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Eva Nell Wimp Bearden; parents, Admiral and Maude Bearden; brothers, Troy and Kenneth Bearden.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Bro. Jimmy Adcox officiating. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park cemetery with the active pallbearers being Roy Lewis Bearden, Donald Andrew Bearden, Christopher Bearden, Evan Underwood, Larry Kelley, Pat Campbell, Judge Ed Hill, Jerry Donohue, Jimmy Cox and Gerald Cox.
The visitation will be from 5:00–8:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2015.

The honorary pallbearers will be Mayor Hubert Brodell, Doyle "Pete" Yarbrough, Fred Rorex, Kathy Green, Regina Angerame, the former Holiday Inn staff & round table, McDonald's on Highland Dr. staff & coffee buddies, Southwest Church of Christ and teen group, and the NEA District Fair.
