HUTCHINSON -- George D. "Dave" Harrell, 81, of Hutchinson, died Aug. 15, 2004, at The Cedars Health Care Center in McPherson.

He was born Oct. 20, 1922, in Springfield, Mo., son of George and Frances Coring Harrell. A graduate of Springfield High School, he had been a Hutchinson resident since 1970.

A retired cereal chemist with Far-Mar-Co, Hutchinson, following his retirement, he was a clerk at the Hutchinson Wal-Mart, working as a clerk in the sporting goods and electronics department. While at Wal-Mart, he was known as "Super Dave."

He was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church and Royal Order of the Moose No. 982.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard and served in the U.S. Naval Reserve during the Korean Conflict.

He married Ruth Ragsdale on Nov. 29, 1943, in Springfield, Mo. She died April 15, 2000.

Survivors include: sons, Rex Harrell and his wife, Siri, McPherson, and Charles Harrell, Wichita; daughter, Helen O'Kane and her husband, Mike, Liberal; brother, Roy Harrell and his wife, Patsy, Springfield, Mo.; aunt, Rita Jones, Jasper, Fla.; three granddaughters, Stacy, Anna and Kassi; two step-grandsons, Shannon and Brandon; and five great-grandchildren, Danielle, Whitney, Blaze, Lauren and Grant.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Gladden.

Funeral service will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Father Benjamin David Shockey officiating. Burial will be at Fairlawn Cemetery. Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary. Graveside military services will be conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to The Cedars or Holy Cross Catholic Church.
