Iris Jean was born Aug. 9, 1937, in Union County, Ohio, to Earl Scott and Lovie Mae (Gant) Armentrout. She graduated from Altanta High School in Union County, Ohio.
Iris Jean was a member of East Fremont Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting and was an avid reader.
She had run the Bar Z Hotel and worked at the former Dale’s Market and WR Farms.
On June 26, 1955, she married Walter L. Meggitt in New Holland, Ohio. He survives, along with their children, Joyce (Mark) Overfield of Clyde, Christopher (Laurie) Meggitt of Mt. Gilead, Ohio, Jeffrey (Martha) Meggitt of Tiffin, Timothy (Jennifer) Meggitt of Fremont and Brian (Joan) Meggitt of Cleveland. Seven grandchildren, eight step great-grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren also survive.
Iris Jean was the last of her family. Preceding her in death were her parents; sisters, Vondale Zimmerman, Hope Orihood, Kathleen Kelly Marilyn Day and an infant sister, Ardith Armentrout; and two brothers, Robert and Jack Armentrout.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Monday, June 22, until the services at 11:30 a.m. at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 S. Main St., Clyde. The Rev. Walker Horne will officiate, and burial will be in McPherson Cemetery.
