George Henry Harvey, son of Michael and Mary Harvey, was born near Brownsville, Ind., Aug. 31, 1848. After a brief illness from pneumonia, he left us to join his loved ones over there, April 17, aged 70 years, 7 months and 17 days. He was one of a family of six children, two of whom have gone on before leaving one brother, Daniel Harvey, two sisters, Mrs. Vina Bertch and Mrs. May Swallow. The deceased spent the greater part of his life near Liberty, Ind., moving the Henry county in 1900, where he resided on a farm until he came to New Castle eight years later.
Mr. Harvey was married to Mary Sloane in Richmond, Ind., Dec. 21, 1882, who preceded him to their home beyond, just one year ago to the day. Two children, Claude and Hazel, and one grandson, Wayne Harvey, with the sisters and brother a host of friends and neighbors remain to mourn the loss of a good father, brother and friend. In Mr. Harvey's home life, he was a quiet, unpretentious, faithful father and friend, kind and patient, indulgent and charitable, almost to a fault. No matter how hard the trails which came to him, he met them quietly, courageously, uncomplainingly, never censuring any one or finding fault with his lot in life. He wife being an invalid for several years kept him at times confined to the home for months, but he was always the most hopeful, helpful father and husband. It is well and fitting to say, Mr. Harvey was a good man in all that the word implies.
