Joseph “Joe” E. McPherson, age 81 of Poplar Bluff, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2015, at his residence.

Joe was born October 23, 1933, in Boydsville, AR, a son to the late Homer Joseph and Mary Ethel (Bryant) McPherson. On April 7, 1967, he was united in marriage to Mary Lou Thomas in Paragould, AR, She survives of the home.

Joe was a member of the Abundant Life Christian Center which was formerly Northend Holiness Church where he had served as assistant pastor and Sunday school teacher.

Joe worked as an insurance agent for several different companies over the years and enjoyed attending auctions and sales. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with the “coffee drinkers” at the McDonalds Restaurant on the southside.

Before moving to Missouri in 1967, Joe had worked as a Trailways Bus Driver in Detroit. He drove charted buses for a number of music acts including Diana Ross and The Supremes, The Four Tops, The Temptations and Willie and Lester.

In addition to his wife of 48 years, Joe is survived by: six daughters, Rebecca Chadwick and her husband Roger of Piedmont, Joyce Hemphill and her husband John of Farmington, Brenda Brown of Rossford, OH, Marcia Stoner and husband Gene of Toledo, OH, Belinda Coleman of Poplar Bluff and Dawn Stark of Talmyra, MI; three sons, David Thomas and his wife Janet of Poplar Bluff, Mike Thomas and his wife Pam of Linn and Jeff McPherson and his wife Lorra of Poplar Bluff; 20 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 1 great great-grandchild as well numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Vincent and Diane Freeman and a grandson Richard Thomas.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 15, 2015, at Moore Funeral Service. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at Moore Funeral Service Chapel with Bro. Rick White officiating. Interment will follow in the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
