In the Layne Cemetery, near Victoria there lie buried four early settlers of this section, whose combined ages total 423 years, an average of over 105 years each.
They are:
Joseph Kilgore, an Indian fighter, who died at the age of 116 years. And beside him is his wife who died when 110.
Capt. John Kilgore, who lived to be 108 years old, and near him is his half-Indian wife who died at the young age of 90...
Joe Kilgore, who was a Methodist preacher as well as Indian fighter, becoming possessed of the farm where Pikeville Courthouse now stands, sold it for a site for the new courthouse, and moved with his family to Victoria where he made a clearing...
