ALLEN MORTON, 1850-1928, came to Texas with his parents in 1872. He had known and fallen in love with Nancy Dulin, 1854-1925, before moving to Texas. After living in Eastland county 3 years he returned to Alabama nd Georgia and married Nancy in 1875 and brought her back to live on his parents farm for the first few months before moving to his own place two miles northwest of Eastland. Allen and Nancy had three children. They were: Tobe Morton 1882-1954, Folia Mary Morton Thomas, 1888-1973, and Gormon Morton, 1892-1959. They moved to the Pleasant Grove area after several years. Sold that and moved into Eastland for two years, then purchased 100 acres of the original William Morton Farm two miles northeast of Eastland. Allen and Nancy were Methodists. Before churches were built in the rural areas, they would have services in their home. The Mortons were avid hunters; the family crest in England had a greyhound on it. Allen did not hunt much after his children were born, but Tobe, hunted with Allen's younger brothers. It was in 1898 while hunting with his Uncle Bill that Tobe saw his first Armadillo. They could see the armadillo had no teeth, but his Uncle Bill warned him to be careful when he pulled him out from under a rock that he might have a stinger on his tail. Tobe's sister Folia was worried that Tobe would never amount to much because all he wanted to do was hunt and have the best hunting dog in the county. Not much ambition for a man that owned three farms and a 10,000 acre ranch when he passed away in 1954.
