Grace, David Paul, Ph.D. a Clinical and Counseling Psychologist of St. Louis, MO died peacefully at his home on Friday, June 12, 2015 at the age of 87. He is survived by his wife, Marian Ruth (nee Klopfer), a son, Kevin David Grace of Waterloo, IL, a daughter, Karen Anne Smith (Richard A. Smith) of St. Louis, MO, a granddaughter, Ruby Dana Grace and his sister, Glenna Joyce Miller of Peoria, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Dorsey Franklin Grace and Ruby Pauline Grace (nee Patterson). Dr. Grace was born in Elmer, MO on May 17, 1928. He graduated from LaSalle-Peru Township High School in LaSalle, IL in 1945. He began his college career at LaSalle-Peru Junior College before earning his Bachelor of Arts degree with honors (Psychology) from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana June 17, 1951. He was awarded his Master of Arts degree (Psychology) on July 31, 1953 and his Doctor of Philosophy degree (Psychology) on January 30, 1960 both from the University of Missouri, Columbia. He served in the U.S. Army as a social worker at Valley Forge Army Hospital from 1953 through 1955. Dr. Grace worked 30 years as a Clinical and Counseling Psychologist for the Veterans Administration serving in Danville, IL, Denver, CO and Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis, MO. As a practitioner, he embraced a pragmatic, client-centered approach that assimilated holistic health advocacy, meditation, and yoga instruction. His orientation as a counselor was informed by the humanistic teachings of Carl Rogers with focused application of an unconditional positive regard for his patients. Dr. Grace also had a private practice for conducting contractual psychological assessment in the Paul Brown Building in downtown St. Louis. He was an avid Mizzou Tiger football and basketball fan, a lifelong St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan, and a great lover of music. He sang with the Bach Society of St. Louis in the 1970's and more recently with Morning Etude in the St. Louis area. To his family, friends, colleagues and wife of 62 years, Dr. Grace was a calm, loving and articulate man with a wonderful sense of humor who will be sorely missed.
