Richard Carl Jensen, age 69, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 15, 2015 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Richard was born April 27, 1946 in Hamburg, Iowa the son of Carl and Wanda (Richards) Jensen. He graduated from Red Oak High School and Universal Trade School. He farmed all of his life in Montgomery County, Iowa living within the same quarter mile of the Jensen home place. He was united in marriage to Patricia Slater on April 3, 1971 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Imogene, Iowa. Richard truly enjoyed farming and raising cattle as well as his hobbies of restoring old cars, trap shooting, and collecting things. He loved old tractors and guns. He was a member of the Isaac Walton Gun Club, Mills Montgomery County Cattleman, Farm Bureau, and was a past 4-H leader.
Preceding him in death were his parents: Carl and Wanda Jensen; and a daughter: Kathleen Anne "Katie" Jensen. Survivors include his wife: Patricia Jensen of Red Oak; son: Daniel Jensen of Red Oak; daughters: Valerie Jensen of Red Oak and Andrea Jensen of Kansas City, KS; grandson: Tyson Uhlmann of Red Oak; sister: Gloria Nelson and husband Jim of Omaha, NE; aunts: Margy Rubey of Red Oak and Barb Richards of Emerson, IA; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Paul Slater and wife Debby of Essex, IA; John Slater and wife Penni of Shenandoah, IA; Jane Hummel and husband Steve of Jasper, MO; Anne Benedict of Shenandoah; Mary Beth Woods of Avoca, IA; and Jim Slater and wife Judy of Essex; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, June 20, 2015 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church with Pastor Gordon Scott and Father Thomas Kunnel, TOR officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Friday, June 19, 2015 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Hawthorne United Methodist Church, My Little Patient (www.mylittlepatient.com), Montgomery County Fair, or Project Porchlight.
