She grew up in Maplewood and Millburn, attended Centenary College and graduated from New Jersey College for Women, now Douglass College, in 1942 with a B.A. in Music.
Married William Irwin in 1945, they resided in Westfield, they moved to Fellowship Village in 1996.
Her father's family heritage goes back to furniture make John Smith Ware of Bridgerton, NJ who was famous for the "Ware Chair", and her mother's heritage goes back to Isaac Lambert of Raritan Avnue for whom Lamberts Mill Road of Westfield and Scotch Plains, NJ is named.
Predeceased by husband of 56 years, William Irwin, and her brother John S. Ware, III.
