Son of Nicolas Tassin fils (1791-1831) and Adelaide Rabelais Tassin (1788-1826), both of Point Coupee Post, Point Coupee Parish, LA, Jean-Baptiste Tassin, a farmer, married twice. His first wife was Mathilde Chatelain (1812-1857), with whom he had ten children between 1833 and 1851. They were married on 8 Nov 1832 at Avoyelles Post. On 17 Feb. 1857 in Alexandria, LA, Jean Baptiste married a second time, to Feroline (Caroline) Bordelon (1817-1900), widow of Hypolite Mayeux II, with whom she had eight children. The new couple had one child together, Caroline Tassin (1858-1934). The 1860 census in Marksville shows the combined family living next door to Adolphe D. & Heloise Coco. The children listed with Jean-Baptiste and Feroline are: Rene Mayeux 23, Clemence Mayeux 18, Pauline Mayeux 16; Marcelin Tassin 13, Francois Tassin 12, Josephine Tassin 9, Aldiger 3, and Caroline Tassin. Aldigee was Feroline's grandson, son of her own first child Jerome B. Mayeux, for whom she became the guardian ("legal tutrix") in September 1869 after the death of Jerome that year - Aldigee's mother had died in 1856 and her son had given the young baby into the care of his mother at that time.

Jean Baptiste's burial certificate was signed by Father Julius Juneau. He was buried in the cemetery of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Mansura, Louisiana. When the mausoleum was built there later, however, headstones of older graves which had occupied that space were discarded in woods to the side.

Note: Jean Baptiste's exact birthdate and place are not known.
