Musician. A noted collector of American folk ballads, composer, and singer. He is best-known for his song "Go 'Way From My Window". Niles was responsible for a folk music revival in the Appalachians, and he influenced performers as diverse as Bob Dylan and Marlene Dietrich. He served as a ferry pilot in the U.S. Air Corps during World War I. The John Jacob Niles Center for American Music at the University of Kentucky in Lexington is named for him.
