Margery Ramsey Morris Woods ~Gabrielle~ 12/27/1910~9/23/2006 On a beautiful and sunny first day of autumn, my mother and best friend took her final curtain call on earth, bowing gracefully she quickly and quietly ascended to an SRO standing ovation in Heaven. The artist never stops, the show will go on. Margery Ramsey Morris Woods, known to all as Gabrielle, was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on a wintry day Dec. 27th, 1910. Daughter of the Apostle George Q. Morris and Emma Ramsey Morris, middle sister to Marion and Helen. Gabrielle was a classically trained singer, dancer, composer, painter, poetess, story teller, actress, sister, wife, Mother, friend, world traveler, a true student of life. Her curiosity was indefatigable, her generosity and kindness immeasurable, her width and breadth of knowledge unfathomable: her smile incandescent. She defined the word, "lady." While performing in Los Angeles, she met a man who would become the love of her life, Edward A. Woods, an actor, and with a borrowed wedding ring they married Dec. 14th, 1947, in upstate New York. Married for 42 years before his passing in 1989. Eddie and Gaby worked together for twelve years, he her manager, she his star, before adopting their only child, a daughter in 1959 and naming her Robin. Mother's cookie, just not baked in her oven she would often say. She was and continues to be, the very best Mother-friend, confidante, advisor and partner in crime. Mother was beautiful both inwardly and outwardly, classy, warm, funny, generous, irreverent, gracious, accomplished and slightly naughty at times. She could tell a great joke, loved the color red, she was a thrill seeking adventurer, old school but slightly before her time. A well defined contradiction, an aficionado of all things cultural: a seeker of beauty and truth. An artist. At the time of Mother's passing, she was the President of the George Q. Morris Foundation, a position she held for decades. Utah has greatly benefited from her charitable work, with an emphasis on the arts, education and historical preservation. Mother was a long time member of the Salt Lake Country Club, The Society of Singers, Screen Actors Guild to name but a few. There will be a celebration of her life, Friday, Sept. 29th, 2006 at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday Sept. 30th, Starks will conduct her funeral at the Ladies Literary Guild, 850 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, at 1:00 p.m., there will be a viewing one hour prior to the services. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery. Preceded in death by her loving husband, many friends and family. Survived by her devoted daughter Robin (Renee); her beloved niece, Linda Kidd of Camarillo, California and the wonderful Woods clan in Arizona, her dear friends, Vivian, Dr. Bill and Jane, Malcolm and Cherie, Grace and Goddaughter, Christopher and many, many others. The family would like to thank The Wellington Senior Residence, which became her last "home" and ultimately CareSource Hospice for the compassionate care she was afforded and the dignity she was given in her final days and moments. And Renee who selfless actions spoke volumes. I could not have done this without you. Thank you so very, very much. Mother loved you as her second daughter, relied upon you and looked forward to your private breakfasts everyday. And to all who have been there for us, for this final chapter, you know who you are, thank you. Mother you have given me everything and will guide me all the rest of my days. -Gabrielle has left the building- Au revoir mon petit chou, ma chere mere, ma vie. J'taime toujours. My best girl.
