Mark Peden, 63, of Champaign passed away at 1:40 a.m. Sunday (June 14, 2015) at Heartland Healthcare in Urbana.

He was born Feb. 5, 1952 in Peoria to Robert and Eleanor Stover Peden. He was married to Marilyn Johnson in Glenwood in May 1977. He later married Jacqueline Lockard on Oct. 2, 1987 in Champaign; she survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Matthew E. (Anna) Peden and Benjamin J. Peden; three grandchildren; one sister, Mary Calvert and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was employed as the assistant chief of the Illinois Water Survey and was director of the Central Analytical Lab. He was also the principal scientist for the water survey and retired in 2002. He was also the executive director of the Orpheum Children's Science Museum in Urbana; a former Eagle Scout in Omaha, Nebraska and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Champaign.
