Upon arriving in Vietnam 7 February 1966, Douglas was assigned to A Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Mechanized Bobcats, 25th Infantry Division USARV. Douglas died as a result of fragmentation wounds to the body while on a combat patrol.
Survived by his wife, Patricia D Alley of Wilmington, Delaware and his parents; Garret and Emma Mae (Spencer) Alley of Newark, Delaware, and a sister, Vada Gertrude Alley.
