John O. Stokke, 93, last living founder of Sons of Norway international fraternity group died Friday, May 14. 1954. He lived at 4433 Camden Ave N. Born in Selbu Norway September 9, 1860, Mr. Stokke came to Minneapolis in 1882. He and about a dozen friends founded Sons of Norway here in 1895. Today, the organization has chapters throughout the United States and in Alaska and Canada.
Mr. Stokke worked for a time as a lumberman and owned 2 farms in Minnesota for several years.
Services will be in Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church with burial in Crystal Lake Cemetery.
Survivors are a son, John M. , Minneapolis, two daughters, Mrs. Gunnar Bell, Minneapolis, and Mrs. A.E. Thompson, Blue Earth, Minn., three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
*this gentleman is often confused with John E. Stokke 1854-1927 (often seen as John O. Stokke) who was married to Caroline 'Carrie' Hanson Stokke.
