Nona Joy (Jones) Anderson returned to her Creator, whom she loved and served during her 97 years on this earth, on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at the Lamoni Nursing and Rehab Center in Lamoni, Iowa. She was born December 30, 1915 to Harry and Josie Laura Tessie (Drown) Jones at Holden, Missouri.

At age 26, Nona’s heart was captured when she met Donald Elzy Anderson. They were married on June 14, 1941. They soon moved to Lamoni, Iowa where they were blessed with a growing family of four sons, Donald David, Richard Royal, Rodger Lowell, and Edward Oliver. She was a baptized member of the Decatur Restoration Branch of Jesus Christ in Decatur, Iowa.

In 1958, Nona and Donald planned and labored at every opportunity to build a new home for their lively, growing sons. Nona was a full time stay-at-home wife and mother. A hard worker, she spent many hours nurturing and playing with her children, along with sewing, quilting, gardening, and canning to keep them warm and fed. She was dedicated to daily exercise in a time when exercise was not touted as the popular health solution. Her morning rituals regularly included walking laps around the home’s interior hallways and feeding her dozens of beloved farm cats.

Nona and Donald remained committed in marriage for nearly 50 years, separated only by Donald’s death in 1990. Others preceding Nona in death were her parents; only sister Armajean Cole and husband Russel, grandson Zayne Edward Anderson, and daughters-in-law, Marilyn Anderson and Nancy Anderson.

Survivors left to cherish her memory include sons, David “Andy” Anderson, Richard and Reita Anderson, and Ed and Diane Anderson, all of Lamoni and Rodger and Janet Anderson of Lathrop, Missouri; grandchildren, Tina & John Hardy, Samuel L. & Heather Anderson, Tonya Halterman, Donny & Cathy Anderson, Kelli Anderson, Samuel Q. Anderson, Brandy & Joshua Schoff, Benjamin Anderson, and Matthew Anderson; great grandchildren, Patrick Stark, Paige Stark, Alyssa Stark, Trevor Anderson, Bailey Anderson, Chloe Anderson, Trask Anderson, Chase Anderson, Dyllan Dickman, Kelcy Anderson, Blake Anderson, Noah Anderson, Autumn Anderson, Ammon Anderson, Nephi Anderson, and Isaac Anderson; and great, great grandchild Jude Stark. Survivors also include her nieces and nephews, Vernon, Janet, Gary, and Rhonda and their families. There are numerous other relatives not mentioned but it doesn’t lesson their importance to Nona and her immediate family.

Funeral services will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 1 p.m. Monday, December 23, 2013 with High Priest Rob Rolfe officiating. Burial is in the Elk Cemetery, west of Decatur, Iowa.
