SISTER RITA CLARE BECKER, OSF


Sister Rita Clare (Meta) Becker, OSF, 86, of Holy Family Hall, died at 3:30 p.m. Monday, July 1, 1996, at Holy Family Hall Infirmary.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Mount St. Francis Chapel, with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel, where there will be a wake service at 7:30 p.m. Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., is in charge of arrangements.

Sister Rita Clare was a teacher and principal at St. John's, Bancroft, Iowa; Immaculate Conception Academy, Dubuque; St. Paul's, Worthington, Iowa; and Sacred Heart, Pocahontas, Iowa. In 1959, she became registrar at Briar Cliff College, Sioux City, Iowa, and in 1964 was named admissions and alumni director there. In 1974, she became archivist of the Celano Archives at Mount St. Francis. She retired in 1987 and moved to the infirmary in 1993.

She was born on July 2, 1909, in Dyersville, Iowa, daughter of Herman and Anna (Wente) Becker. She entered the Sisters of St. Francis on Sept. 8, 1927, and made her final profession of vows on June 19, 1933.

Surviving are a brother, Monsignor Edmund Becker, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and a sister, Marie Becker, of Dyersville.

Memorials may be given to the Sisters of St. Francis at Mount St. Francis.
