James Ira Barnes, 94, of Gilbert, AZ, passed away January 1, 2004. James was born in Victor, Idaho, in 1909.
He graduated from the BYU School of Economics in 1940. He moved to Tempe, AZ, in 1961, from Rock Springs, Wyoming. Before retiring in 1977, James worked as an agricultural economist for the Bureau of Reclamation on the Central Arizona Project. He served faithfully for many years in various LDS church positions, including bishop of the Rock Springs Wyoming Second Ward.
James is preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Johnson Barnes, and son, Kenneth J. He is survived by daughter Judy Railey of Lynn Haven, FL, and sons Russel W., of Gilbert, AZ, Larry A., of Coeur d' Alene, ID, and Harold H. of Peoria, AZ., 21 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren.
Visitation Thursday, January 8, 2004, at Meldrum Mortuary, 52 N. MacDonald, Mesa, AZ., with funeral service on Friday, January 9, 2004, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Beck chapel, 1221 W. Howe Street, Tempe, AZ.
