Generalmahjor de Infanterie, Commander 707th Infantry Division. He joined the Bavarian Army as a Fahnenjunker in 1907 with the Infantry “Leib” Regiment and served in the first war as an Hauptman. After the war he temporary joined the Freikorps “Epp” and was allowed in the new 100,000 man Reichswehr as Company Chief of the 19th Bavarian Infantry Regiment. He retired from the Army but in 1936 he was reactivated. With the mobilization of World War II he took the command of the 404th Infantry Regiment of the 246th Infantry Division. In May 1941 he took the command of the new 707th Infantry Division and was involved in Operation Barbarossa. Stationed in the region behind the front his troops committed several mass executions of Jews and partisan suspects. He lost his command in February 1943 and landed in the Führer Reserve and until the end of the war was assigned as Inspector of the Wehrmacht Replacement Inspection in Heidelberg. After the war he was accused of killing Jews but he denied his troops were involved in the mass killings and that he never ordered them to join the killing. The judge and the Public Ministry closed the case against him in 1962.
