Ruth graduated from Ashley Hall School in Charleston, SC., and went on to earn a BA Degree from Hollins College in VA. She was a communicant of Christ Episcopal Church since her family moved to Greenville. Ruth was a member of the Junior League, The Assembly and the Debutante Club. She enjoyed her Garden Club get-togethers, which she referred to as "Eatin' Meetings."
Ruth loved music, especially Big Band. She played the pipe organ when she was younger and was playing Scott Joplin and "Stardust" on the piano until the week she died. She had a great love for the outdoors. Her favorite activities involved fly fishing and hiking, while paying close attention to the flora and fauna of the area. She was a warm and generous hostess who enjoyed entertaining family and friends in her home.
Ruth was predeceased by her two brothers, Wylie Evan Burnett and Jackson W. Burnett, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Ruth P. Reeves of Greenville and a son, Evan B. Pamplin of Easley (William Anne). She had four grandchildren whom she adored: Peter B. Reeves of Atlanta, GA (Brian Williams), Ned Reeves of Greenville, Ryerson Pamplin of Quincy, CA and Wylie Pamplin of Chapel Hill, NC. Also surviving are her first cousin and dearest friend, Harriet Cleveland Dobbins of Greenville, and two nieces and a nephew whom she cherished as if they were her own children: Peggy Burnett of Greenville, Sally Burnett (Tom Sweeny) of Brevard, NC., and Jackson Burnett III (Sandra) of Balsam Preserve, NC. She treasured her great-niece Heather Burnett and her great-nephew Jackson Burnett IV (Miley) and their children. Ruth also loved her grand-dogs and grand-cats.
The family is extremely grateful to her dedicated caregivers: Roberta Sheppard, Sarah Cranston, Suzanne Krantz, and Naoma Cranston.
A memorial service will be held on June 20, 2015, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Christ Episcopal Church in Greenville. Friends are invited to join the family at the family plot in the churchyard for interment immediately after the service, or they may proceed directly to the McCall Parlor in the Parish House for the reception.
