SALTILLO – Evelyn Schumpert Young, 84, died Friday, June 12, 2015, at the North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice Unit. She was born November 4, 1930, to Clyde and D'Arca Schumpert. She was a graduate of Shannon High School and a member of the first graduating class of Itawamba Junior College.

She married Billy Young on June 23, 1950. They were the proud and loving parents to three children. She retired after 32 years of service as secretary from the Natchez Trace Parkway. From the first Sunday after her marriage to Billy, she began playing the piano (and then organ) at Saltillo Methodist Church and continued for 64 years. For the past nineteen years she has served alongside Bro. Tim Green as church secretary. Her listening ear and compassionate heart endeared her to all, from family and church members to postal and bank workers. She loved cooking and shared her ""creations"" with all.

A celebration of worship and remembrance will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2015, at the Saltillo First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tim Green officiating. Burial will be in Brewer United Methodist Church Cemetery. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Billy in 2006; son-in-law, Randy Collums in 2012; her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be 2 until 5 p.m. today, June 14, 2015, at the church.
