Mrs. Ben Hagel Sr., 93, died Friday, Feb 11, 1977, at 8:58 p.m. in Hill Country Memorial Hospital. Her body lay in state at Beckmann Funeral Chapel until 9:45 a.m. Monday, Feb. 14, and funeral services were held at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Anthony Cummins, Rev. Francis Kalina and Rev. W. W. Schneider officiating. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery.
The rosary was recited Sunday at 7 p.m. in the funeral chapel by Rev. Kalina, and the St. Ann's Society rosary followed at 7:15 p.m., led by Mrs. Albert Kammlah.
Mrs. Hagel was the former Appolonia Koenig, a daughter of Ed. Koenig and Agatha Luter Koenig. She was born Jan. 3, 1884, in Cuero, DeWitt County. She married Ben Hagel April 16, 1907, in Cuero, and he preceded her in death in September 26, 1946.
Surviving are the following children: Appolonia, Mrs. Bruno Fritz; Ben C. Hagel; Edward J. Hagel, Mrs. Marie Sauer, all of Fredericksburg; Johanna, Mrs. Carl Jenschke; Cecilia, Mrs. William Cartwright; and Josephine, Mrs. Warren Crain, all of San Antonio; 24 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; also one sister, Mrs. Nora Feuss, Los Angeles, Calif.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, were one daughter, Agatha, Mrs. Frank Jenschke; on child who died in infancy; 13 brothers and sisters, Edward, Albert, Otto, John, Alphonse, Willie, Edwin and Louis Koenig; Mary Hilsmeir, Annie Semmler, Emma Semmler, Bertha Rath and Ida Bluntzer.
Pallbearers were Lester Jenschke, Pat Zaiontz, Allen Hagel, Charles Fritz, Rodney Sauer and Gary Hagel.
Mrs. Melvin Itz sang at the services in church and Mrs. Clarence Weinheimer was the organist.
