Mary Ann Peters was born November 9, 1932 in Leola, SD to parents Emil & Mary Smolnisky. She was one of eight children: brothers Leo, Elmer, Ralph, John and sisters Ruth and Evelyn all deceased. She has a sister Kathleen Robinson who lives in Denver, CO. Her husband Julius (Pete) Peters Jr. she married in Luverne, MN on August 26, 1958. He preceded her in death on October 7, 1993. She is survived by her daughter Ruth Ericksen of Luverne, MN and her son Randy Peters (wife Cindy Peters) of Denver, CO. Mary has four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Mary had worked in the past as a waitress and a sales person in retail. She enjoyed her work for the government most of all. She began her political career as a volunteer for the Senator George McGovern Campaign. She began her professional government career working for Senator Jim Abourezk. Mary went on to work as a Congressional Representative for Senator Tom Daschle for 21 years and worked with Senator Tim Johnson for four years. She sadly had to retire after 30 years with the government due to health concerns. She also was very active with the DAV Auxilliary. Mary was very artistic as she enjoyed painting, designing jewelry and making greeting cards. She was a wonderful chef and baker. Mary was an amazing and talented woman. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends
