Oberleutnant zur See, German Navy, Captain of the German submarine U-1003. After being badly damaged by a collision with the Canadian frigate HMCS New Glasgow, the U-1003 was scuttled in the Northern Channel north of Malin Head, Ireland on 23 march 1945. The Captain and 14 crew members, perished in the water and of the survivors, another 2 (Karl Maier and Paul Zander) died soon after being rescued and were buried at sea.

The body of Werner Strübing was found washed ashore at Shell Bay, Isle of Muck, Scotland on 3 April 1945. The bodies of
Günther-Friedrich Backhaus,
Walter Bücker,
Karl Heinz Golz,
Erwin Prill,
Georg Pruchnik,
Alfred Schenk,
Erich Thoss,
Luitpold Urlaub and
Georg Woiczyk
were also recovered and buried but those of
Paul Barwig,
Gerhard Greulich,
Herbert Karp,
Josef Löffler and
Franz Szukala
do not appear to have been found.

Werner Strübing is also commemorated on the Moltenort U-Boat Memorial, Germany.
