WALTERS, George C., 93, of Springfield, passed away Thursday, September 20, 2018 in Villa Springfield. George was born January 29, 1925 in Springfield, Ohio to Wilbur E. and Dorothy B. (Wolbert) Walters. He graduated from Selma High School and was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served in World War II. George worked as a mechanic for Davidson Chevrolet and later retired from Monte Zinn. He was a member of Emery Chapel where he became a certified lay speaker for the United Methodist Church. He later became a member of the High Street United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Anthony Lodge No. 455 F. & A.M. and the American Legion. Survivors include three children, Mark (Sheila) VanPelt, Michelle (David) Thornton and Charles (Kim) Walters; twin sister, Donna Burris; brother, William J. Walters; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn, in 2016; and a sister, Marcella Day. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5 - 7 p.m. in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Steven Fewell officiating. Entombment will be held in Rose Hill Burial Park. Memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent DePaul or Open Hands Free Store, 1131 Sunset Ave., Springfield, OH 45505.
