In 1940 he and his family, Harry, Darlene and Harry III, lived in Wayne, Passaic, NJ. His father was a contractor. His father joined the service during WWII. While he was overseas Darlene moved the family to Ft. Lauderdale where her parents were living. After Harry got back from the war he built houses in the Ft. Lauderdale area. Richard graduated from Ft. Lauderdale High School then attended the University of Florida where he studied architecture. In 1949 Richard married Barbara Jane Bloom in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Richard joined his father in the building industry building many houses and commercial properties in the area. Richard and Barbara had 5 children, 2 boys and 3 girls. Barbara died in 1993. In 1994 he married Lee Vachon. Richard's third wife was Lisa.
