He is survived by his loving wife, Diane; and his beloved sons, Corey and his wife, Connie of Winchester, Va. and Jason and his fiancé, Lauren Payne of Scottsville, Va. He has three grandchildren that he loved so much, Cayla, 25, of Glasgow, Scotland, Graham, 23, U.S. Navy and J. Matthew Jr., Scottsville, Va.; and one great grandchild, Rylie E. Banton. He is also survived by his brother, Randolph P. Banton and wife, Patricia of Troy, Va.; his sister, Barbara and husband, Larry of Chesterfield, Va.; his sister-in-law, Susan Leslie and her husband, Eric Gustafson of Portsmouth, N.H., and his nieces and nephews from Virginia, Florida and Maine.
Bee was a graduate of Fluvanna County High School. He served in the U.S. Marines from 1969-1971. He worked for Stone and Webster at the Louisa Power Plant, but most notably, he was a conductor for CSX for 31 years. Bee was a kind and caring soul who never met a stranger. He loved to travel, especially to OBX with his family. He worked hard, long hours without a word of complaint. He will be sorely missed.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 13, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at the Fork Union Baptist Church with interment to follow in the Fork Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Hill and Wood Funeral Home in Charlottesville, on Friday, June 12, 2015, from 6 until 8 p.m.
