WREN – Henry Jeff “Mr. Baseball” Hogan, 85, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at his home after a long illness. A native of Monroe County, he was born Sept. 26, 1924, to Dorsie and Willie Mae Hogan. He was the oldest member of Union Grove United Methodist Church., where he was a class leader. He attended Wren Consolidated School. He was a retired employee of True Temper Sports. He worked as a security guard at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center, River Birch Golf Course and Shearer-Richardson Nursing Home. He was an employee of Haney’s Auto Sales. He was a baseball coach and mentor for many young men in the West Amory community.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Union Grove United Methodist Church in Nettleton with Pastor Steve Owens officiating. Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery. Darden and Sons Funeral Home of Amory is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Willie Hogan of Wren; four sons, Willie Clinton Hogan of San Francisco, Willie James “Joe” Hogan, Henry Earl “Bodley” Hogan and Bobby Wayne Hogan, all of Wren; one daughter, Rev. Gloria McKinney of Picayune; 20 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Mary Sue Hogan; two brothers, Charlie and Willie James Hogan; and three sisters, Mary Emma, Maggie Lee and Ollie Mae
The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to service time Friday.
