Betty L. Paulsen, 74, of Omaha, and formerly of Atlantic, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2015, at the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha.

Betty Lou was born on December 29, 1940, in O’Neill, NE, the daughter of John Francis and Dorothy Evelyn (Ott) Curran. She grew up on the family farm, where she fondly remembers riding horses. In 1958, she graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in O’Neill.

After high school she worked at the United States National Bank, and this is where she would meet her future husband, Norman, who also worked there. On August 11, 1961, the couple married at the First Lutheran Church in Omaha. Following their marriage they made Atlantic home. In addition to raising their five children, Betty always worked outside the home, never really considering herself in retirement. She worked at Atlantic State Bank, Farm Credit, Norwest Bank, Admissions at Cass County Memorial Hospital, and most recently at Wal-Mart.

She was always on the go. The kids will treasure memories from numerous trips to California to visit Grandpa Paulsen and Sioux City to visit Aunt Mary Jo. As a family countless days were spent on camping and fishing trips to Lake Icaria, Viking Lake, Lake Anita and Northern Minnesota. In 1984, she rode the entire RAGBRAI route with a friend from work, Alice Huddleson. If you did catch her taking a break you would likely find her doing a crossword puzzle.

Betty is survived by her husband of 53 years, Norman; children, Michael (Cyndi) Paulsen of Chicago, IL, Julie (Steve) Driggers of Omaha, NE, Brian Paulsen of Des Moines, IA, Mark Paulsen of Omaha, NE, and Joshua (Cissy) Paulsen of Omaha, NE; nine grandchildren; sister, Mary Jo (Jerry) Jurgensmeier of Cedar Rapids, IA; and three nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Blake Paulsen; and daughter-in-law, Rebekah Wagonner Paulsen.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 11, 2015, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic, with Pastor Ken Davidson officiating.

Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Anita, IA.

Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
