Charles Sulsberger, 86, of Climbing Hill died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 1995, at a Sioux City hospital after a short illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Climbing Hill with the Rev. Russ Couwenhoven of Moville Evangelical Church and the Rev. Terry Gilmore of the First Baptist Church in Climbing Hill officiating. Burial will be in the Climbing Hill Cemetery under the direction of Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.

Mr. Sulsberger was born Aug. 30, 1908, near Holly Springs, Iowa, the son of Charles and Settie (Reich) Sulsberger. He moved with his family to Climbing Hill at age 10. He attended schools at Climbing Hill and Holly Springs. He married Irma Moss May 3, 1930, in Onawa, Iowa. She died in September 1972, in Onawa. As a young man, he worked for the Woodbury County road maintenance crew. After moving to Sioux City, he worked for Armour & Co. and also as a truck driver. He returned to Climbing Hill to farm and raise livestock.

Mr. Sulsberger was a member of Woodbury County Cattlemen’s Association. He attended First Baptist Church of Climbing Hill. He was a member and past president of Climbing Hill and Woodbury Central School Boards and Mended Hearts.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Holst and her husband, Chuck of Climbing Hill and two grandsons, Luke and Chris Holst.

He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Elizabeth Marie; three brothers, Paul, Clarence and Louis, and five sisters, Pearl Steinhoff, Meggie Chilton, Lucy Smith, Pauline Clift and Lena Bryans.

Pallbearers will be Roger, Scott and Whitey Sulsberger, Ray Steinhoff, Leonard Cassens and Kernit Grimshaw.
