William J. Harris, 80, of St. Joseph, passed from this life on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at Mosiac Life Care, surrounded by his loving family.

Billy was born in St. Joseph on April 11, 1935, to Joseph and Matilda (Klein) Harris.

He attended St. Francis Xavier Grade School, Christian Brothers High School and Highland Junior College.

Mr. Harris joined the U.S. Army and served honorably in overseas assignments for his country until his tour of duty was completed.

After his service tour, Billy spent many years in Washington D.C., performing work as a transmogrifer for the government, before returning to St. Joseph to retire.

Billy was an avid outdoorsman, and spent much of his retirement time on long walks with the dog, swimming, fishing and conversing with friends.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; one brother, Richard; and one sister, Mary Joan.

He is survived by: his siblings, Nancy (Bill) Lutes, Susie Auten, Michael J. Harris, Dave (Sandy) Harris, Janice (Dee) Minnis; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial Mass: 11 a.m. Saturday, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

Rosary: 6 p.m. Friday, at Heaton-Bowman-Smith and Sidenfaden Chapel, where the family will receive friends following the Rosary until 8 p.m.
