James L. Barker, son of Dr. James L. Barker and Kate Montgomery Barker, was born in Salt Lake City on August 10, 1920.

He passed away on June 7, 2015 at his home.

Jim graduated from East High, attended the University of Utah, and graduated from Ohio State University's law school. He served his country during both WWII and the Korean War.

As a young man, he completed an LDS mission to Argentina. He was a Young Men's president, an Elder's Quorum president, and served five years in the Salt Lake Regional Mission to the Spanish-speaking population. He was also a guide on Temple Square, a service missionary on Welfare Square, and a Gospel Doctrine teacher.

Jim was a Salt Lake City judge, a city attorney, a City Commissioner in charge of the police and fire departments, an Assistant Attorney General, and an Administrative Judge.

Jim loved horses and drinking mate with the Ches and was proud of his Waldensian ancestors.

He married Glenna Park on October 14, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple and is survived by his wife, sons, James (Kathy) and Samuel, and daughter, Mary; grandchildren, Tricia (Jeremy), Heather, Matthew (Maggey), Daniel, and Sarah; and great-grandchildren, Spencer and Samantha. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Dr. Nancy Barker and Margaret Mitchell; and brother-in-law, Albert O. Mitchell.

A graveside service will be held at Larkin Mortuary (2350 East 1300 South) on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at 11:00 a.m.
