Melissa Ann "Missy" Chavez, 47, of Sentry Circle, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at her home.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday (June 16) at San Jose Catholic Church. Father Martin Cordero will be the celebrant. Interment will follow at the Loving Cemetery. Vigil will be at 7 p.m. Monday at San Jose Catholic Church. There is no visitation.

Melissa Ann Chavez was born in Carlsbad, New Mexico on December 18, 1967 to Jose and Beamira (De los Santos) Chavez.

Missy’s earlier years were spent working in retail, but her biggest dream was one day becoming a business owner. She accomplished that goal in 2012 when she proudly opened her store on Pate Street, called “Rock It”. She took great pride in knowing her unique sense of style could inspire people. She was a member of San Jose Catholic Church.

She enjoyed being around her friends and family. Missy was the life of the party, a firecracker if you will; never would she be seen without that big bright smile. She was a woman with a big heart, always lending a helping hand when a friend was in need. She knew no stranger. One of her greatest joys in life was being “Mimi” to her three grand-daughters. Their time spent with her was indescribable.

Missy will be significantly missed by all those who loved and cherished her. Country cruising, with the music blasting, will never be the same.

She was preceded in death by her father Jose Chavez and nephew George Perez, Jr.

Missy is survived by her daughters: Shelby Vasquez and Jazlyn Florez and fiancé Steven Quintela and step-sons: Vince Vasquez and Dylan Marquez all of Carlsbad; mother, Beamira Chavez of Loving, NM; grandchildren: Jayslin, Joliese and Jostyn Quintela and brothers: Roy Chavez and wife Dahlia, Joe Chavez and wife Melinda Brito and Robert Chavez and wife Loly all of Carlsbad and George Perez and wife Grace of El Paso, TX; sisters: Linda Florez and companion Danny Ramirez and Martha Quinonez and husband Ralph, all of Loving, NM, Marty Galindo and husband Oscar and Maggie Marquez and husband Abel all of Carlsbad.

Pallbearers will be LeeRay Florez, Ernesto Armendarez, Bernie Morales, Vince Vasquez, Johnny Brito and Ted Ortega.

Honorary Pallbearers are all of her friends and family and customers from Rock It who made every day worth it for her.
