Earl VanGilder, a resident of the Brooks Hill area near French Creek, Upshur County, WV, was the son of J.J. "Doc" and Susan (Cutright) VanGilder. He was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and a member of the Brooks Hill United Methodist Church. Preceding him in death were his parents, his two wives, Ruby Hope (Caplum) and Russie (Poling) VanGilder, a daughter (Lorene Henderson), a son (Earl VanGilder, Jr.), a foster son (Eugene Coe), and three sisters. He was survived by a daughter, Marguerite Pierce, four grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
