Mr. George “Wayne” Hendrix, 85, passed away peacefully Monday morning at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born April 23 1930 in Davidson County, NC to George Washington Hendrix and Minnie McGee Hendrix. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Mildred King and Vivian Griffith Boger. Wayne was a loving husband, father and “Papaw.” He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara Jean Beamer Hendrix and two daughters and their husbands, Donna and Mike Beeson of Bermuda Run, NC and Debbi and Don Addington of Loganville, Ga; and four grandchildren David Beeson (Leah) of Cary, Il, Angela Hunt (Rob) of Boiling Spring Lakes, NC, Jeremy Addington (Carol) of Louisville, KY and Benjamin Addington (fiancee Christine) of Denver, CO and three great grandchildren, Michael Beeson, Callisa Addington and Caelan Wade. Wayne retired from Bahnson Company after 38 years of service as an installation superintendent. He worked in all the eastern USA states as well as Venezuela, Jamaica and Canada. Upon his retirement, he and Jean moved to Long Beach, NC. and spent nine happy years there before moving back to Winston Salem to care for family members. Wayne always enjoyed traveling and having new experiences. During the 1990’s Wayne and Jean traveled to all fifty states. In the 2000’s they visited Russia, France, Italy and Switzerland. Mr. Hendrix was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and an active member of their Senior Adult Choir. He looked forward every year to the Choir’s mission trips, traveling to places ranging from Vermont to Georgia. This past year they went to Tennessee singing and ministering in prisons, independent living homes, rest homes and rehab centers. When he was 36 years old, Wayne discovered golf and was hooked for life. He never took it too seriously. For Wayne golf was a way to have fun and fellowship with others. He did manage to have 3 holes in one of which he was proud. Wayne volunteered at Tanglewood as a starter for 20 years and belonged to the “over the hill gang,” playing with the group every week. Services will be held at Hayworth Miller Silas Creek Chapel on Thursday June 11 at 11:30 AM with Dr. Cecil Cave officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 11:15 AM prior to the service. There will be a private family graveside on Friday at Forsyth Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem NC 27103. © Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home | Winston-Salem, NC
