Bernadette Maez
Bernadette (Betty) Maez, 84, of Caldwell, went to be with her loving Father on Friday, Nov. 21, 2003. Rosary Devotion will be recited at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at the Flahiff Funeral Chapel in Caldwell. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Caldwell. Inurnment will follow at the Canyon Hill Cemetery in Caldwell. There will be no procession. Services are under the direction of the Flahiff Funeral Chapel in Caldwell.
Betty was born Dec. 10, 1918, the fourth child born to Frank and Sofia Medina in Monte Vista, Colo., where she was raised and educated. She then met Edward C. Maez and they were married Sept. 23, 1939, and moved to San Francisco, Calif., where they raised 12 children together. Prior to moving to California, she was a kindergarten teacher in Monte Vista, which she very much enjoyed.
After moving to California, Betty worked for See's Candy in San Francisco. In 1969, her family moved to Idaho. She was employed at the J.R. Simplot potato plant in Caldwell until her retirement in 1983. She enjoyed flower gardening, arts and crafts, fishing and cooking. A very loving mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, she would give her last penny to help anyone.
Betty is survived by her children, Sally Harroun of Middleton; Edward C. Maez of Ariz.; Sophia Valente of Calif.; Agnes Knapp of Caldwell; Bernie Maez of Caldwell; Evelyn Dougherty/Long of Calif.; Ronald Maez of Calif.; Dennis Maez of Calif.; Barbara Butterfield of Minn.; Alberta Klikunas of Boise; Thomas (Tom) Maez of Caldwell; her siblings, a brother, three sisters, her loving 23 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, her loving neighbor, Robert Salas, her chef, Arba and Fonnie Hager who showed her the stars of the universe where she is now a residing star in Heaven. She was preceded in death by her son, Charles, husband, Edward C. Maez, her parents, two brothers and a sister.
Memorials may be given to the Guardian Hospice of Caldwell.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at the Flahiff Funeral Chapel in Caldwell.
