Robert “Bob” Harold Riley, 67, went to his heavenly home Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015, with his family by his side after a difficult battle with Muscular Dystrophy. His love for God, his family and his friends were the greatest treasures in his life.
Bob was born to the late Edward Harold and Laura Ruth Riley of Columbia on Feb. 17, 1948.
Bob was a trade school graduate during his apprenticeship while becoming a Union Pipefitter with Local 562. He was a valuable member of Christian Chapel and served in many ways, including years of service as a Youth Sponsor and Board Member. Bob was a veteran short-term missionary and served on 19 different mission trips outside of the United States.
Bob enjoyed camping, riding motorcycles, playing softball, playing cards with dear friends and many other hobbies and activities. He was respected as a leader in the construction community, serving as a foreman on projects, demonstrating a strong work ethic and being a man of his word. Not only was Bob a short-term missionary, but he was a friend to many missionaries with a very generous heart toward those he loved.
Bob married his best friend, Retta Sue Geisler Riley on Feb. 23, 1968.
He is survived by his wife, Sue, of Columbia; his three sons, Brad (and Beth) of O’Fallon, Kurt of Columbia and Scott (and Ginger) of Columbia; seven grandchildren, Brennan, Blake, Blair, Emma, Alex, Sophia and Aiden; his sister, Sharon (Rosendo) of Columbia; and by many nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins and very dear friends who are like family.
Bob was proceeded in death by his mother, Laura Ruth Riley and his father, Edward Harold Riley.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Christian Chapel in Columbia on Saturday, Feb. 21. Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. with a service to follow at 1 p.m.
Memorial contributions can be made to Christian Chapel designated to the Riley Missions Fund.
