Janet Segur, 97, of Canton, PA passed away peacefully while surrounded by her loving family on Monday, June 8, 2015 at Troy Community Hospital.
Born November 19, 1917 in Williamsport, Janet Mae Watts Segur was one of three children of the late Perry and Dena (Ameigh) Watts. She graduated from Canton High School with the class of 1934. On January 8, 1944, she married Francis Segur. They made their home on the family dairy farm in Ward Township and raised two sons.
In addition to her devotion to family and home, Janet helped on the farm and was Ward Township’s Tax Collector for many years. Her faith in the Lord guided her life. Janet read her Bible daily and was an active member of the Ward United Methodist Church. Other memberships included the Ward and North Union Granges. She loved to read, held a great appreciation of nature and could master most any type word puzzle. Watching hummingbirds, growing flowers and houseplants were a few of Janet’s favorite hobbies. In earlier years she harvested many gardens. Each grandchild and great-grandchild was a blessing in her life.
Surviving are her children, Gene and Bev Segur, Marty and Joan Segur all of Canton, six grandchildren; Jodi (Brian) Peterson, Stephanie (Luke) Douvier, Brock Segur (Julie Bogart), Brandon (Velvet) Segur, Adam Segur (Belle Clark) and Curtis Segur (Kaitlin Petrowski), three step grandchildren; Tammy (Brad) Lyon, Nancy (Ron) Morgan and Jodie (Rich) Bardo, several great-grandchildren, step great-grandchildren and step great great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Also especially supportive friends, Ann Dorsey and Barb Chilson both of Canton and several dear friends. In addition to her husband of 64 years, Francis, who passed away on Apr. 25, 2008, Janet was predeceased by two brothers, Robert "Bruce" Watts and Stuart Watts.
In keeping with Mrs. Segur’s wishes, a graveside service will be held at the North Union Cemetery 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 13. In lieu of flowers, consider a memorial to the Ward United Methodist Church, c/o 474 Furman Rd. Canton, PA 17724. Pepper Funeral Home, 578 Springbrook Dr., Canton is assisting her family with arrangements.
