Attorney Robert W. Horn of Valders has announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for assembly in the second county district. He is a graduate of Valders High school and the University of Wisconsin in 1940.

Following the receipt of his law degree in 1942, Horn entered the army's military intelligence service Following his basic training at Camp Butner, N.C., he studied the German language and history at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pa. Later he attended the Military Intelligence school at Camp Ritchie, Md.

He served 13 months overseas, being attached to the Third army in France, Luxemburg, Germany, Austria and Czechoslovakia.

Attorney Horn is a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars."

"KNIFE STOLEN IN WAR RETURNED TO EX-GI
Marysville, Mich. - (UP) - Robert Horn recovered his pocket knife six years after Nazi soldiers stole it when he was captured in Germany during the war. The knife, a gift from his father, was engraved: 'Bob Horn, Marysville, Mich.'

Miss E. H. Roehrborn, Lake Forrest, Ill., sent the knife to Horn. Her brother had found it in Germany and sent it to her asking that it be returned to its owner."

The Rev. K.J. Stuebbe, pastor of the Salem Ebenezer Reformed church in Newton officiated today at the wedding of his daughter, Esther, to Attorney Robert W. Horn, son of Dr. and Mrs. Walter Horn of Valders.

Garden flowers decorated the altar for the ceremony at 2 o'clock. Today also marks the 37th wedding anniversary of Rev. and Mrs. K.J. Stuebbe.

'Pilot Me O Saviour' was sung by the church choir and Doris and Delores Grosshuesch sang as a duet, 'The Lord's Prayer.' Mrs. Walter Hoyer was the organist and played a half hour recital before the ceremony. Lohengrins 'Wedding March' was played for the processional and she played Mendelssohn's 'March' for the recessional. Miss Ethel Bruckschen and Miss Wernecke each played two numbers on the piano with Mrs. Hoyer at the organ. The Rev. Robert Stuebbe, of Garner, Iowa, brother of the bride gave a short sermonette. Given in marriage by another brother, the Rev. Calvin Stuebbe, the bride wore a sheer nylon over white moire gown styled with a sweetheart neckline and plain bodice which closed in the front with rhinestone buttons. The full skirt ended in a train.

White Roses
Her fingertip length veil was secured to a beaded tiara and edged with a wide border of lace. She carried a cascade, bouquet of white roses.

Mrs. Ben Pientka of Milwaukee, cousin of the bride was maid of honor and wore a white organdy over green taffeta gown styled like the bride's. She carried a cascade bouquet of yellow carnations.

Bridesmaids were Mrs. Allan Follett of Madison, sister of the groom, wearing white organdy over yellow taffeta; and Mrs. A.B. Stuebbe of Mishicot, sister in law of the bride, in white organdy over orchid taffeta. Their flowers were like the matron of honor's.

Bobby Stuebbe of Garner, Iowa, nephew of the bride, was ring bearer and wore a white suit. He carried the rings on a white satin pillow. Judith Ann Stuebbe and Carol Stuebbe of Sutton, Nebr. nieces of the bride were flower girls. They were dressed in white organdy over pink taffeta and carried white crochet baskets of daisies.

Male Attendants
Allan Follett of Madison, brother in law of the groom, was best man, and A.B. Stuebbe of Mishicot, brother of the bride, was groomsman.

The bride's mother wore a light blue dress with white accessories and a corsage of carnations and the groom's mother wore a navy blue dress with navy accessories and a corsage of carnations.

A reception was held from ? to 5 o'clock this afternoon on the lawn of the Stuebbe home for 500 guests. Supper will be served to about 130 guests.

For their wedding trip to northern Wisconsin, the bride has chosen a navy blue dress, with navy and white accessories. The couple will live in Valders where the groom is a lawyer and village attorney. he was graduated from the Valders high school and the University of Wisconsin law school. The bride was graduated from Tripp high school, Tripp, S.D. and from Mission house college. She has taught in Valders for the past five years."

Beth Ann Horn, 2-1/2 year old daughter of Attorney and Mrs. Robert Horn of Valders, passed away at the Wisconsin General Hospital at Madison on Sunday afternoon. Little Beth Ann suffered from Leukemia.

Survivors besides the parents include the grandparents, the Rev. and Mrs. K. J. Stuebbe of Newton and Dr. and Mrs. Walter Horn of Valders.

Funeral services will be held at the Salem Ebenezer Church at Newton on Thursday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Chester Ploeter of Gardner, Iowa will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Berge Funeral home in Valders after 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The casket will not be opened."

"CATO RESIDENTS ASK FOR BRIDGE
MANITOWOC - A petition by Town of Cato residents for removal and replacement of a wooden bridge on a town road over the Soo Line railroad about 2 1/2 miles east of Valders was taken under advisement by the Wisconsin Public Service Commission Tuesday following a public hearing at the County Courthouse.

The town residents, represented by Atty. Robert W. Horn from Valders, want the bridge replaced for safety reasons. Among others things school bus drivers have complained that they have poor visibility while using the present structure. The 110 foot long bridge was constructed in 1916 but has undergone extensive repairs periodically, the last time in the spring of 1963. ... ."

"ROBERT W. HORN
Attorney Robert Walter Horn, age 90, of Valders, died on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008, at Aurora Medical Center, surrounded by his loved ones.

Robert, a lifelong resident of Valders, was born on Feb. 16, 1918, to the late Dr. Walter Horn and Winifred (McCarthy) Horn.

Robert graduated from Valders High School in 1936, and went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1942. Robert then attended the UW-Madison Law School, where he earned his law degree in 1945.

He was admitted to The Wisconsin State Bar in 1946. Upon finishing law school, Robert entered the military and proudly served his country with the U.S. Army in the intelligence unit under General Patton in France.

When Robert returned from the war, he began his law practice in Valders, where he practiced law for more than 50 years. The State Bar of Wisconsin honored Robert for the practice of law for 50 years on Jan. 25, 1996.

Robert married Esther Stuebbe on June 24, 1950, in Newton. She preceded him in death on May 4, 2007. He was an active member in the American Legion Auxillary; Wisconsin Lawyers Association; a member and co-founder of the Valders Community Chest; an active member on the Valders village board and in the community; and was an active member of his church over the years.

Robert and Esther enjoyed traveling, he was an avid reader, history buff, sports fan, especially his beloved Badgers and Packers, and most of all he enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Robert and his wife had a truly special quality about themselves. Those of us who were lucky enough to know them on their journey through life are truly blessed.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Esther Horn; one daughter: Beth Horn; and a sister: Rita Follett (survivors omitted for privacy).

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008, at Salem Ebenezer Reformed Church. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Kyle Sorensen, with burial to follow at the church cemetery.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008, at Salem Ebenezer Church from 4 to 6 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008, at Church from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.

The Christianson & Deja Funeral Home, Valders, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements."

Robert graduated from Valders High School in 1936, and went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1942. Robert then attended the UW-Madison Law School, where he earned his law degree in 1945.

He was admitted to The Wisconsin State Bar in 1946. Upon finishing law school, Robert entered the military and proudly served his country with the U.S. Army in the intelligence unit under General Patton in France. When Robert returned from the war, he began his law practice in Valders, where he practiced law for more than 50 years.

The State Bar of Wisconsin honored Robert for the practice of law for 50 years on Jan. 25, 1996. Robert married Esther Stuebbe on June 24, 1950, in Newton. She preceded him in death on May 4, 2007.

He was an active member in the American Legion Auxillary; Wisconsin Lawyers Association; a member and co-founder of the Valders Community Chest; an active member on the Valders village board and in the community; and was an active member of his church over the years.

Robert and Esther enjoyed traveling, he was an avid reader, history buff, sports fan, especially his beloved Badgers and Packers, and most of all he enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Robert and his wife had a truly special quality about themselves. Those of us
who were lucky enough to know them on their journey through life are truly blessed.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Esther Horn; one daughter: Beth Horn; and a sister: Rita Follett.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008, at Salem Ebenezer Reformed Church. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Kyle Sorensen, with burial to follow at the church cemetery.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008, at Salem Ebenezer Church from 4 to 6 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008, at Church from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 am.
