Joyce was born in the Sub-District of Mitcham in the County of Surrey, England on June 15th, 1923. Joyce graduated from high school at the age of 14 and began working in her mother's floral shop in London, England. Joyce was married to Alexander Humphries on December 7th, 1946 in New York, N.Y. Alexander preceded Joyce in death on January 8, 2003.
Joyce and her siblings Roy and Vera grew up in Britain during World War II and survived several aerial bombings including one that destroyed their home. In 1941 at the age 18 Joyce joined the Royal Air Force (RAF) and was assigned to the British Balloon Command that was established in 1917 during World War I to protect cities and key targets such as industrial areas, ports, and harbors from German night raiders. Joyce met her future husband during the War and came to America as a War Bride in 1946. Joyce became a citizen of the United States of America on February 20th, 1951 in Brooklyn, N. Y.
Joyce first began working for the Nielsen Company of New York and was proud of her many years as a telephone operator before the birth of her children in the 1950's. Joyce then became a homemaker and moved with her husband and boys from New York in 1961 to San Francisco, California. Joyce eventually settled in the East Bay Town of Danville in 1965 before eventually moving to Auburn, California where she and Alexander retired.
Joyce was survived by her children. Joyce is also survived by her two grandchildren.
Joyce will be buried alongside her husband at the New Auburn Cemetery during a private ceremony.
