Ruth Ann Hanna, 87, of Weyers Cave, Virginia, passed away Monday, June 8, 2015, while under hospice care at Bridgewater Retirement Community. Ruth was born September 16, 1927, in Queens, New York. She was the daughter of John J. and Anne McDonald.
She was employed as a full-time loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her gardens, her cats and helping raise her grandchildren.
She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church. In her 35 years there, she was active in the choir, WRE, Sunday school and Church Council.
Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Hanna, and son, Mark Hanna.
She is survived by three children, Ruthanne Logue and husband, Jim, Robert J. Hanna Jr. and wife, Ann, and Shawn Hanna and wife, Nancy. She leaves behind six grandchildren, Kathy, Jason, Heather, Jennifer, Steve and Kelly, and five great-grandchildren, Kaylah, Leland, Wyatt, Rae and Gabrielle. She is also survived by her sister, Helen Wright of New York.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, June 11, 2015, at Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, June 12, 2015, at Salem Lutheran Church in Mount Sidney with the Rev. Lance K. Braun officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
