Rhythm and Blues Musician. A native of Macon, Georgia, he is best remembered for such recordings as, "Big Bad Wolf" and "Miss Thing". In the late 1950s and early 1960s, he was in the vocal group The Pinetoppers, with Otis Redding. Jenkins often took credit for teaching Redding how to sing. He also played guitar on Redding's first recording, "These Arms of Mine". Their collaborations ended when Redding was killed in a plane crash at the age of 26. Jenkins released his last album, "All in Good Time", in 2000. He passed away from the effects of a stroke at the age of 67.
