Services held for Timothy P. Steele

Timothy P. Steele, age 56, of 3595 Keystone Drive in Dubuque, Iowa, passed away at 7:20 p.m. Monday, February 18, 2002, at his home in Dubuque.

Funeral services for Mr. Steele were held at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, February 21 in the Dubuque Senior High School Gymnasium.

The graveside committal service was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 22 at the Waterman Cemetery at Sutherland, Iowa, under the direction of the Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home of Dubuque, Iowa.

Mr. Timothy P. Steele, the son of Silas L. and Doris L. (Fredenburg) Steele, was born December 3, 1945, in Cherokee, Iowa. He graduated from the Sutherland Iowa High School in 1963, then attended the Nebraska Christian College for 2 years and finally graduated from Milligan College in Milligan, Tennessee. On October 8, 1979, he married Sonjia R. McKeehan in Newton, Iowa. She survives. For the past five years he has been a teacher and the head boys basketball coach at Dubuque Senior High School in Dubuque and previously had served as a teacher and coach at 2A Missouri Valley (Iowa) High School where his teams won 8 Western Iowa Conference Championships. He was a member of the Bridge Christian Church in Dubuque and the Iowa High School Basketball Coaches Association.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sonjia R. (McKeehan) Steele; two sons: Trent W. and Colby A. Steele, both at home; one daughter, Jennifer L. (Dean) Jalas of Hartley, Iowa; two grandchildren: Kaleb and Haley Jalas; his mother, Doris L. Steele of Sutherland, Iowa; two sisters: Virginia (Richard) Moorehouse of Mountain City, Tennessee, and Sue (Doug) Weaver of Calumet, Iowa; four brothers: Phil (Maggie) Steele of Norfolk, NE, Tom (Helen) Steele of Sutherland, IA, Steve (Mary) Steele of Spencer, IA, and Keith (Vaunda) Logan of Springfield, MO.

He was preceded in death by his father on February 6, 2002.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Timothy P. Steele Foundation at the Dubuque Teacher's Credit Union.
