Janet Gray Hobgood Fussell, 82, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, May 28, 2015, a date so special to herself and family as it was her 62nd Wedding Anniversary to her late husband, Tom Fussell.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, May 31, at the First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Tarboro with the Rev. Jessie Blalock, her devoted pastor for over 20 years, officiating. Burial will follow in Edgecombe Memorial Park.
Janet was born in Greene County on February 21, 1933 to the late Sammy and Annie Hobgood. She retired from the Edgecombe County Tax Office after many years of faithful service. Janet was a fighter, having just recently beaten her cancer after an extended illness. She took great pride and confidence in herself and her ability to overcome one of the toughest obstacles she ever had to face. Her warm smile and enduring spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew her in the days ahead.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Sammy and Annie Hobgood; and her beloved husband, Tom Fussell.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory a loving and devoted family, which includes her daughters, Jeannie Fussell Layton and husband, Frank, of Red Oak, Becky Fussell Harrington and husband, Jeffery, of Conetoe, Ellen Fussell Joyner and husband, Donald, of Nashville; grandchildren, Kenny Layton and wife, Alex, Sarah Gray Layton and "Ty" Toncellis Davis, Eason Thomas Harrington, Mallory Gray Joyner, Clark Joyner; great grandson, Bryson Hayze Davis; brother, Jim Hobgood, of Farmville; and a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and extended family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions and donations may be made in Janet's memory to the Word of Life International Building Fund: PO Box 1678, Tarboro, NC 27886.
The family will receive friends and relatives at Carlisle Funeral Home in Tarboro on Saturday, May 30, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
