Members of the Association of Retired Police Officers of D.C. are notified of the June 7, 2015 death of Willie J. Wade. He was a Detective Grade One (D-1) with Metropolitan Police Department-Homicide, Cold Case Squad, when retired on October 24, 1998.

Detective Willie J. Wade was appointed to the Metropolitan Police Department on April 26, 1971 and retired on October 24, 1998.

Detective Wade was the husband of AORP member, Deputy Chief Jacqueline A. Barnes.

WADE WILLIE J. WADE Willie Junior Wade "Butch", son of Anna Ruth Wade and the late Izell Wade, Sr., was born on November 2, 1948, and was called home by his Heavenly Father on June 7, 2015. He was born in Aiken, SC, and in his infant years, Izell and Anna Ruth relocated the family to Washington, DC. Willie was a member of Brookland Union Baptist in Washington, DC. He married Julianne Wade, from this union they have a son, Marquis Wade. Willie later met and married Jacqueline Barnes, who is affectionately known as Jackie. Willie spent the last 23 years of his life as her devoted husband and friend. He was the love of her life and she affectionately called him "Wadie". As a child Willie had a fascination with cowboys and competed for appearances on the Pic Temple Cowboy show. He, one of few African-American children was chosen three times to appear on TV. Willie attended school in Washington, DC and graduated from Mckinley Tech High School in 1968, where he developed a sense for fashion that he maintained throughout his adult life. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the United States Army and subsequently served a tour of duty in Vietnam. Upon discharge from the United States Army, Willie was then sworn into the Metropolitan Police Department, Washington, DC in 1971. Upon graduation from the Police Academy, he was assigned to the 3rd District as a Patrol Officer, Evidence Technician, and then Detective Grade II. Willie was able to distinguish himself as Detective Grade II and earned the assignment in the Homicide Unit in 1988. During this time he attended The American University, Washington, DC and studied Criminal Justice. As a Detective, Willie earned the admiration of his peers and mentored many young Detectives. One of his major achievements was his ability to accomplish a 100% case closure rate when the city was experiencing an inordinate murder rate. Shortly thereafter he advanced to a Detective Grade I. He retired from Major Case/Cold Case Squad in October of 1998. Willie began the next phase of his life working for the Montgomery County School System for 15 years, Richard Montgomery and Paint Branch High Schools, respectively. He was well respected and loved by the staff and students for his benevolence and giving spirit. Willie retired in June of 2013 Willie is survived by the love of his life, Jacqueline Ann Barnes; son, Marquis Wade of Washington, DC; mother, Anna Ruth Wade of Washington, DC; brother, Izell Wade, Jr. (Linda) of Silver Spring, Maryland; sister, Annie Hairston of Waldorf, Maryland; two nieces, Shawne Wade of Suitland, Maryland and Lisa Wade-Palmer of Gaithersburg, Maryland; one nephew, David Hairston of Waldorf, Maryland and a host of great- nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Izell Wade Sr. and brother-in-law, Clarence Hairston. The family will receive friends at Evangel Cathedral, 13901 Central Ave., Upper Marlboro, MD 20774 on Tuesday, June 16, 2015, visititation from 9 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Reverend Samuel Wilson, officiating. Interment Fort Lincoln Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to B.K. HENRY.The family will receive friends at Evangel Cathedral, 13901 Central Ave., Upper Marlboro, MD 20774 on Tuesday, June 16, 2015, visititation from 9 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Reverend Samuel Wilson, officiating. Interment Fort Lincoln Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to B.K. HENRY.

Tuesday, June 17, 2015, at Evangel Cathedral, 13901 Central Avenue, Upper Marlboro, Maryland 20774, there will be a VIEWING from 9-11 AM with SERVICE immediately following. INTERMENT will be at Ft. Lincoln Cemetery, 3401 Bladensburg Road, Brentwood, Maryland.

I had the privilege of knowing Detective Willie Wade. He was an exceptionally fine person, and an excellent detective.
